Proposed landmark bridge planned as a new gateway to Andhra Pradesh’s capital region
VIJAYAWADA: A new signature bridge across the Krishna River is being planned to provide a new connectivity link between Vijayawada and Amaravati. The proposed bridge is being positioned as a new gateway to the capital city and is expected to strengthen connectivity between Vijayawada and the developing Amaravati capital region.
🚧 Project moves into DPR stage
The project has currently reached the consultancy/DPR stage, rather than construction. The Amaravati Growth & Infrastructure Corporation Limited (AGICL) has invited proposals for a consultant to prepare the Feasibility Report and Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Signature Bridge across the Krishna River at Vijayawada.
The official AGICL tender listing identifies the project as:
“RFP for Engagement of Consultant for Preparation of Feasibility Report and Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a Signature Bridge across River Krishna, Vijayawada.”
The RFP was published in August 2026, and the bid submission deadline is September 2, 2026, according to the AGICL listing.
🌉 New gateway to Amaravati
The proposed bridge is expected to become an important landmark connecting Vijayawada with Amaravati. The project is being planned at a time when major infrastructure works are being taken up in and around the capital region.
The bridge is intended to improve travel connectivity and support the expected increase in movement between Vijayawada and Amaravati as Amaravati’s development progresses.
📍 Why the project is important for Krishna District
The proposal is particularly significant for Krishna district because Vijayawada is one of the district’s major urban centres and an important transportation hub.
A new river crossing could provide an additional connectivity option and potentially reduce pressure on existing routes, while also strengthening Vijayawada’s relationship with the Amaravati capital region.
💰 Investment and design details
At this stage, the final bridge length, detailed design, construction cost and construction timeline should not be treated as final, because the government is still seeking a consultant to prepare the feasibility report and DPR.
The DPR process is expected to establish the project’s technical feasibility, alignment, design requirements, estimated cost and implementation strategy.
This is important for your news page because some older Amaravati bridge designs circulating online refer to different proposed bridge projects and should not be presented as the final design for this newly announced project.
