π Competitions Across 175 Constituencies
The championship began on July 15, 2026, with competitions being conducted across all 175 Assembly constituencies of Andhra Pradesh.
The programme covers Under-17 and Under-23 categories and includes 12 sporting disciplines, giving school, college and young athletes opportunities to compete at different levels.
π Three-Stage Competition
The championship has been organised in three major stages:
- Constituency level: July 15β24
- District level: August 1β15
- State level: August 20β25
- Prize distribution: August 29, National Sports Day
The final stage brings the best-performing athletes from the earlier rounds together for state-level competition.
π° βΉ94 Lakh Prize Pool
A total of βΉ94 lakh in cash prizes has been allocated for winners of the state-level competitions.
According to SAAP, the prizes are intended to encourage young athletes and provide greater motivation for them to continue their sporting careers. The winners are scheduled to be felicitated on August 29, coinciding with National Sports Day.
π₯ Focus on Grassroots Talent
The championship is designed to identify athletes from rural as well as urban areas.
Organisers have set a target of involving around three lakh students and young athletes in the overall championship. The initiative aims to provide talented players with competitive exposure at an early stage rather than waiting until they reach national-level competitions.
π Sports Disciplines
The championship features 12 sporting disciplines, with reports listing sports such as:
- Athletics
- Basketball
- Kabaddi
- Hockey
- Weightlifting
- Chess
- Other youth sporting disciplines
The competitions are conducted separately for the Under-17 and Under-23 categories.
π Krishna District Connection
The championship has a direct Vijayawada/Krishna-region connection because the programme was officially launched and its poster was unveiled at the SAAP headquarters in Vijayawada.
SAAP Chairman Animini Ravi Naidu, Managing Director S. Bharani, chess Grandmaster Koneru Humpy and double Olympian Rajani were present during the poster unveiling.
However, the championship itself is statewide, so it should be described on your Krishna District page as a sports development story with a Vijayawada/Krishna connection, rather than claiming that the entire championship is being held only in Krishna district.
π National Sports Day Finale
The winners are expected to receive their prizes during the National Sports Day celebrations on August 29.
The date is significant because National Sports Day in India commemorates the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.
